We have just taken delivery of quite possibly, the rarest piano ever located in Australia; an extremely rare and collectable Steinway & Sons, Model D ‘Heirloom Collection’ Concert Grand Piano.

This is the only example of a Steinway & Sons, Model D ‘Heirloom Collection’ Concert Grand Piano that we are aware of that has become available in Australia.

A powerful statement of class and sophistication and an extremely rare and sought after item throughout Europe and the US, these pianos are rapidly increasing in value.

A restored example of this exact same model can be found on the official Steinway & Sons Website at the following link, this piano recently sold for over $275,000 US;

We were privately contacted regarding this piano by a prominent local family in Hobart, Tasmania. The Piano was previously the concert grand piano in the main concert hall of Government House, Tasmania. It was privately purchased from the Tasmanian State Government in 1988 and has remained in the same family home in Sandy Bay, Hobart until we purchased the piano for restoration.

Manufactured in the original Steinway & Sons Piano Factory in New York, USA in 1881, the official serial number is stamped on the piano, placing this magnificent instrument within the absolute golden era, and highly collectable period of Steinway & Sons.

The piano comprises a stunning traditional English Rosewood Cabined with hand carved fillagree legs and music desk which are amazingly still complete. We have now started the process of completely restoring and French Polishing the timber cabinet and removing and repolishing all brasswork.

The piano mechanism, keyboard and pedal mechanism will be next, they are in excellent original condition and will be carefully restored to perfect functional playing condition.

An extremely rare instrument like this will gain a lot of attention, further photos and further information are available on request.

A brand new Steinway & Sons Concert Grand Piano now has a retail price of in excess of $400,000 AUD. This piano would therefore make an excellent alternate option and would be a powerful statement of class and sophistication for a beautiful home or commercial environment.

As a cost guide, we anticipate this piano to be in the price range of $110k-$140k on completion. It will most likely double in value over the next 10-20 years.

As a small family business we pride ourselves on our friendly, personalised service.
