~ Refurbished Mid-Century Walnut Yamaha P2 Piano ~
This mid-century styled 1968 model Yamaha P2 upright piano has just arrived in our Adelaide store. Purchased from Allan’s Music, Rundle Mall, Adelaide it was previously owned by a local tuning customer of ours and has remained in the same family home since new.
Manufactured in 1968 during the the highly sought after ‘Golden Era’ for Yamaha, this classic model was built in the original Yamaha Piano Factory in Hamamatsu, Japan. Following this period, Indonesia and China emerged as the next piano manufacturing economies causing Yamaha to switch to cheaper manufacturing processes at a new factory in Indonesia from the early 1990s and right up to today.
The P2 came out with a hardwood cabinet, reinforced soundboard, upgraded action and easy running castors. This model stands at a height of 118cm, very few of these pianos were originally ordered in semi-gloss walnut with 99% being black making this piano quite unique. The new comparable model is the U1PEQ which now retails for in excess of $15,000 in walnut!
