The restoration of this piano is now almost complete and it is on display to view and play at our store in Evandale, South Australia. A historically significant piece, this John Broadwood & Son Concert Grand Piano has an extremely early serial number of 19,318, dating it to approximately 1861.
Manufactured in the original John Broadwood piano factory in London, England in approximately 1861; to our knowledge, this is one of the earliest Broadwood Concert Grand pianos currently in existence in Australia. For a piano enthusiast, this piano may well be the earliest and most rare Broadwood concert grand piano in this type of playing condition in Australia.
This beautiful instrument incorporates hand carved legs, carved fillogree music desk with slide out candelabra mounts and original wooden rosewood foot pedals. Amazimgly, the piano comes with its original matching turn top piano stool and hand painted fallboard decal.
It was part of a private piano collection which also included 3 other historically significant grand pianos from a similar era - (these are currently in the process of restoration planning).
The original playing action, keyboard and pedal mechanism have been methodically restored and the piano is now in perfect playing condition.
A stunning historical piece, this piano oozes class and sophistication and would suit either a period style home or modern home as an amazing and classy feature piece. Alternatively a museum or historical house.
